Cancel an invoice or issue a credit note

A draft can be changed; an issued invoice is corrected with a credit note or cancelled in two steps.

Until it is issued, an invoice is a draft and can be changed freely. Once issued it is a document: its number, date and lines stay as they were sent.

  • Credit note — for a refund, a discount given afterwards or a mistake. It is a negative invoice: it reduces revenue and VAT in its own month and settles the invoice it credits.
  • Cancel — for an invoice that should never have been issued. Profflow asks twice before it cancels.

A credit note issued in a later month changes that month’s VAT, not the original month’s. If the original KMD was already filed, the correction belongs to the month of the credit note.
