How a salary is worked out

From gross to net, and what the company pays on top — line by line on every payslip.

For each person Profflow starts from the gross monthly salary and works out, by the year’s Estonian rules:

  • income tax, after the basic exemption where it applies;
  • the funded pension (II pillar) and the employee’s unemployment insurance, withheld from the salary;
  • the net pay — what reaches the person’s account;
  • social tax and the employer’s unemployment insurance, paid by the company on top;
  • the cost to the company: the gross plus what the company pays on top.

Each payslip shows every line, so the net can be checked by hand. The net pay is in the cash forecast on pay day, and the taxes on the 10th of the next month.

Not available yet: holiday pay, sick pay, benefits and employee expenses. If someone is on leave or sick in a month, check that month’s figures with your accountant.
